EVA ANNE CARUSO

I am a confident and enthusiastic bioengineer with the passion to create. I intend to use my creativity and quick thinking to innovate solutions to problems that matter! Every day the medical field is changing which breathes life into my career objectives, providing me the opportunity to learn as I continue to pursue my passion. My divergent thinking has lead me to the development of some small scale projects as well as successful prototypes that have provisional patents filed! I hope you will look through my portfolio!

Home: Welcome

BACHELOR'S

I received my BS Bioengineering from Clemson University in May of 2019. I was apart of many creative inquiry projects that fostered my passion for medical product development. I, along with my team members, was awarded the first place prize at the Senior Design Symposium for The Biopsy PolyGuide. I thank Clemson Bioengineering for strengthening my love and dedication to this field!

MASTER'S

I am pursuing a Master's in Medical Product Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. I will graduate with this degree in December 2020. I am sharpening my ability to needs find, ideate and implement design thinking techniques into products!

FELLOWSHIP

I am the Center for Medical Innovation Fellow working under Dr. Alan Hirschman! This has been an insightful experience getting to sit in on funding meetings, learning how projects progress and designing the website! I will use this knowledge in the future to help me funnel ideas into projects worth pursuing!

WORK

I am a principal biomedical engineer at the Organoid Therapeutics laboratory in Pittsburgh, PA! I have been working to define the regulatory strategy for a biologic combination product for the cure to type 1 diabetes. I have also begun work in the Quality department developing design controls, requirements and specifications for our product V&V testing.

TECHNIQUE

Through my studies I have developed many skills that I believe to put me in a very competitive place! I have background in prototyping, bioinstrumentation, tissue engineering, statistics and differential equations. This core curriculum is bolstered by marketing and management, market research, human factors engineering and extensive knowledge of regulatory pathways & reimbursements for medical devices!

Design thinking is a HUGE part of my everyday practices and I use it in more areas than just medical product development. My favorite is the SCAMPER method where you look at any existing product and substitute, combine, adapt, modify, put to another use, eliminate or reverse a feature of it! This adjustment opens your mind to alternative features and brings to light the possibility of your average object to be something totally new!
